KXCV-KRNW invites public to participate in virtual run/walk April 13-27

Northwest Missouri State University’s National Public Radio affiliate, KXCV-KRNW, is inviting community members and listeners throughout the region to participate in the station’s fifth annual virtual 5KXCV-KRNW Run for Radio.

The 5K run/walk to support the radio station, takes place Saturday, April 13, through Saturday, April 27. Individuals are invited to participate – anytime, anywhere – by clocking their times and then sending photos of themselves and their results to helenk@elahomecollection.com; participants also may post their photos to the KXCV-KRNW Facebook page or tag KXCV-KRNW on Instagram or X, formerly known as Twitter.

Registration is $25 per person, or $15 for Northwest students, and should be completed online by Monday, April 1, at www.kxcv.org/events/5K.htm to receive a shirt before the event. Registration remains open through the final day of the 5K on April 27. All proceeds go toward supporting programming on KXCV-KRNW.

Participants can begin the event with KXCV-KRNW’s “packet pickup” event on Friday, April 12, in Lot 57 on the east side of the J.W. Jones Student Union.

Top finishers at the end of the event will receive medals and prizes, including gift certificates to Hy-Vee and A&G Restaurant. All participants will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win other sponsor-provided prizes.

“We are super excited for our fifth Run for Radio,” Helen Konstantopoulos, KXCV-KRNW’s membership development and events coordinator, said. “Our fundraiser is not only a means to fund some of our programming but also a way to promote healthy living. Every spring we encourage people to get outside and start exercising.”

Konstantopoulos added, “Because it’s a virtual event, weather is not an issue, and you can participate from anywhere in the world. It’s so fun to see all the pictures on social media. We’ve had participation from all over, including Arizona, Oregon, Washington, D.C., Greece and Turkey.”

In conjunction with its Run for Radio, KXCV-KRNW also is partnering with Eugene Field Elementary School in Maryville on the school’s 13th annual Speedy Spoofhound 5K/1-Mile Fun Run on Saturday, April 20. By registering for both events, participants will be entered into a raffle for prizes, including tickets to a Bearcat football game, Science City and Fit Family Night at the Mustangs Game as well as a one-night rental for a cabin at Mozingo Lake Recreation Park, pickleball at the Hangar and a family pass to the Lied Center in Clarinda, Iowa. Families may register for the Speedy Spoofhound by clicking here.

About KXCV-KRNW

Launched in 1971 as the first full-power public radio service in Missouri, KXCV (90.5 FM), a 100,000-watt NPR affiliate, provides in-depth news and information with an alternative music format. All of KXCV’s programming emanates from the Northwest campus, while a sister station, KRNW (88.9), founded in 1993, extends the radio programming across most of the northern 25 percent of Missouri.

As the flagship of the Bearcat Radio Network, KXCV produces all Northwest football and basketball broadcasts and game feeds to commercial radio affiliates throughout the four-state region.

KXCV-KRNW programming also is accessible online at www.kxcv.org and via its Bearcat Public Media App.
